Digital Literacy from HoupeActs Learning Center helps students and families build the practical technology skills they need to thrive in a 24/7 virtual learning world. Instead of assuming learners "just know" how to use devices, we explicitly teach the habits and tools that make online learning manageable, safe, and productive.
Sessions cover essentials such as navigating learning platforms, organizing digital files, and using features like copy/paste, highlighting, and comments to support reading and writing. We also practice joining online meetings, using microphones and cameras appropriately, and communicating respectfully in chats and discussion boards.
Students learn how to evaluate basic online information, recognize distractions, and manage multiple tabs without feeling overwhelmed. For younger learners, we focus on simple routines and visual checklists; for teens and adults, we build keyboarding fluency, efficient search strategies, and tools for note-taking and time management.
Because many parents are supporting virtual learning from home, we provide guidance on device setup, accessibility tools, and simple settings that can reduce frustration-such as enlarging text, using read-aloud features, or setting up bookmarks for frequently used sites.
Instruction is paced to match each learner's comfort level, with plenty of practice in a judgment-free environment. By the end of the program, students are not just clicking around; they are using technology with intention, which frees up more energy for actual reading, writing, and math.
